Community & Conservation

At the heart of LUMO Conservancy’s success is the unique bond it shares with the local community. The Conservancy was conceived from a fusion of three different ranches – Lualenyi, Mramba, and Oza – owned by the local Taita community. This unique structure reflects the community’s commitment to conserving its local environment and promoting socio-economic development.

As a Gold Eco Rated property, it follows strong environmental practices and works closely with the local community. Part of the profits are directed towards the Conservancy, supporting anti-poaching patrols, habitat restoration efforts, and local community benefits.

If you like wilderness pur, this is a perfect place for your family safari This wasn't our first visit to the cozy cottages at Leopard's Lair. The two attractively furnished cottages each featured a large double bed and a single bed, making them perfect for our family (four adults and two children). Being able to stay in two cottages right next to each other gave us maximum privacy. Although the small camp isn't fenced, we felt safe and secure at all times. The askaris kept a discreet watch over us, allowing the children to move freely between the two cottages. As always, we self-catered and enjoyed the fantastic kitchenette facilities located right by our terraces. The camp’s incredible location offers a wonderful view of the plains. We especially loved having sundowners under a tree out in the wild! Not to mention the incredible experiences and sightings from the underground photography hide, which is part of the Soroi properties. For us, a stay at the Leopard's Lair cottages is the ultimate safari experience, and we will certainly be back again and again.

Fantastische ervaring We had a wonderful time here. The lodges are very comfortable and offer amazing views. Its intimate scale makes for a very peaceful atmosphere. We felt pampered by the staff and enjoyed delicious meals. The Lumo Conservancy took us by surprise. During our very first game drive, we spotted a wide range of animals, including zebras, giraffes, elephants, hyenas, and lions. A truly beautiful experience.

An Absolute Haven of Care and Kindness The lovely staff at Leopards' Lair are unmatched in the subtle arts of hospitality. The facilities and amenities are eco-friendly and beautiful -- even more beautiful are the sweet people who work here! What incredible game drives we enjoyed in the conservancy; we're so thankful that the sky cleared to disclose a spectacular sunset view of Kilimanjaro on our final night! Again, the managers, chefs, those who tidied our tented rooms, and especially the sweet-hearted Marieta made our three-night stay veritable perfection. We certainly long to return someday -- soon! Until that time, many, many thanks to the people of Leopards' Lair!

Amazing views, good food, cool night safari, highly reccomend We stayed at leopards lair. From the start the staff here made our experience amazing. They were attentive and saw that we felt comfortable here. The food was outstanding, all was freshly prepared and perfectly cooked. No overcooked veggies in sight! I would reccomend a night safari, we saw owls and cevil and civit cats and other animals we wouldn't have seen otherwise in the day. The spotters had amazing eyes and both driver and spotter were knowledgeable about the wildlife. Overall highly reccomend. For the view alone it is worth it but we really enjoyed our stay and will return.

Disappointing value for money Disappointing experience for a multigenerational trip in the lead up to Xmas. The Lodge felt old and outdated and in need of maintenance. Small rooms and very small bathrooms and not very accessible for seniors. Did not feel like good value for money. My recommendation is to Stay at their newer bigger and better sister accommodation Cheetah Tented Camp for the same rate!

Posto magico! We stayed at this property in August with our two twenty-year-old daughters. What can I say, everything was wonderful! The welcome, the service, the kindness of the staff, the food—really everything! We felt truly pampered. The safari organization was perfect, the breakfast in the bush, the dawn and nighttime outings, the aperitif at the end of the day in front of the fire. We had a wonderful experience, managing to observe, thanks to the coordination of our guide Benjamin and the other staff, the herd of elephants as they drank, up close and personal, hidden in the bunker. Our experience in this magical place, far from the hustle and bustle of the hyper-tourist parks, was truly enjoyable. Paola, Giorgio, Anna e Livia

great stay at Leopard Lair Cottage The Leopards Lair Cottage is an absolutley great place to stay at Tsavo West. The bungalows are situated at the top of a hill in the Lumo Conservancy and you have a breathtaking view over the park during the day, and in the evening you can enjoy a campfire and watch the stars. The rooms have a tasteful interior design and you have a verenda with a great view right in front of your door. The staff at Leopard Lair is amazing, really absolutley everybody, manager, waiter, kitchenstaff, security guards…They are very friendly and helpful and provide you a very pleasant stay. This accommodation is the most private one we have ever been to, as there are only four bungalows. It is very discreet and very quiet, which we really enjoyed. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be chosen out of a menu and is freshly made for you. The food was really very delicious and always freshly cooked. Even there wasn’t a buffet you really got enough to eat. And just in case you were still hungry or you liked your dish so much you could always ask for more. Unfortunately I forgot my mirror lamp in the bathroom and the staff found a way to arrange a meeting point where our guide was able to pick it up on our way to Mombasa. Thank you very much for that. ❤️ We will definetly come back.

Lumo Luxury Leopards Lair did not disappoint. A luxury experience in an intimate setting, my wife and I and two friends. The view, the incredibly friendly staff (nothing was too much of an ask), the accommodations and especially the 5 star food. The food was so well prepared, so much so that my wife commented that her fish dish was as good as anything she has had, anywhere. Having drinks by the fire while the sun went down was special. Years ago we stayed at the special sister facility (Lion's Bluff-then with different owners) and was considering booking again but budget and schedule would not allow. So, in short, if you want a very special experience treat yourself to a stay at Leopards Lair.
